Social Media Examiner®

About Social Media Examiner®

Social Media Examiner® started back in 2009. The exact same year that OfficeHounds was founded. When I started the business, it was my go-to resource to learn about social media marketing. It was full of actionable ideas to try, reviews of marketing tools and really felt like an ‘authority’ that could be trusted. At the time, I only read their articles. Podcasts weren’t so popular back then, but you can learn so much by listening to their podcasts and reading their articles.

About the Social Media Examiner® Podcast

The podcast is hosted by the founder, Michael Stelzner. He interviews Social Media experts and gets into the nitty-gritty of SMM.

The Science of Social Media a Podcast by Buffer

About Buffer

I’ve been ferociously reading articles  about social media marketing since I started OfficeHounds in 2009. Buffer is one of the early trusted sources that I relied on to educate myself about new social media tactics. Why? They were one of the few places that published their own research findings. Because they have people using their social dashboard to schedule posts, they are able to analyze data about what works. They have also hired great copywriters who do the research to write informative content. Their solid background in content creation, makes them a great marketing podcast to listen to.

About the The Science of Social Media Podcast

Unlike their long-articles, The Science of Social Media podcast breaks topics down with one topic per podcast. They get straight down to business which is great if you’re wanting to learn vs. being entertained when exercising on the stationary bike.

Episode: How To Recover from Rapid Agency Growth by Getting Hyper Focused

Marketing Podcast Date: August 10, 2022

What I found interesting about this marketing podcast:

So, if you’re an owner of an agency with growing pains, there’s some good stuff in this podcast.

“If you’re giving away your worst sh*t. People are going to think it’s your best sh*t, and they’re going to think you’re an idiot. You might as well give away your best stuff because people are freaking lazy, and they’re going to want you to do it anyway.”
Jason Swenk

Love this quote. People are lazy! That’s why they need us to get things done for them.

It feels to good to hear what you know to be true. Don’t say yes to work that isn’t a good fit. I have to say that I felt pretty good hearing that his guest said, “you take on 5 new clients; you have to scramble.” We can handle that without scrambling, but in fairness, we’re not a full-service agency. We’re all about good processes, so we have fewer variables when we onboard new clients. That’s been by design. It was interesting hearing that Robert Giovanni, CEO of IronPlane, who started in business with e-commerce, said that lead gen for marketing agencies is harder than for other industries. Jason asked the chicken and egg question do you hire when you have too much work or hire and then find the clients? Robert had clients in long-term contracts, so he found it easier to hire after the work was secured. There was a warning from Jason that hiring before you have an easy way to bring on new clients can lead you to take on work that you shouldn’t.

Episode: Are You Just One Conversation Away from Massive Agency Success?

Marketing Podcast Date: January 26, 2022

What I found interesting about this marketing podcast:

Interview with Tom Schwab, Interview Valet. I loved the overall message that you’re one conversation away from changing everything. He also emphasized the importance of doing two things, sharing knowledge and connecting people. He gave a good example of how most people have one person, like a teacher or mentor, who helped to open their minds. Another good example of the power of connecting people to bring meaningful change for others was the idea of a friend introducing you to someone who becomes your spouse. Being that connector can have a significant impact on others and is an easy thing to do. He also talked about how podcasts can help you to reach more people, which is something we’re looking to explore at OfficeHounds!

Episode: How to Grow Your Agency by Fostering Connections

Marketing Podcast Date: November 23, 2020

What I found interesting about this marketing podcast:
In this podcast, Jason interviews a business owner who overcame addiction to start a successful marketing agency doing films for large brands. He and his business partner met in rehab, and they started by making marketing films for rehab centers. I think the lesson here is that selling to a market that is comfortable and familiar can help you to grow connections when you’re starting out.

Jason asked, “How do you make people open up on camera?
I like the reply. “What’s most important is that we’re having a conversation. This isn’t an interview.”

Episode: How an 8 Figure Agency Created a Successful Referral Program

Listen on Google Podcast

Marketing Podcast Date: February 3, 2020

What I found interesting about this marketing podcast:

Be prepared to feel risk averse when you listen to this podcast interview with Michael Mogill, Crisp Video. He talks about how he set up a referral program with a giveaway of a $70,000+ Tesla as a prize. The first month they launched the campaign they didn’t get a single referral. With nerves of steel, the company adapted and created a wildly successful referral program. Here were some things I learned from Michael about running a successful referral scheme.

  1. Have a person dedicated to your referral program to do things like write email templates to help people to do referrals and follow up with
  2. Make sure you have a large enough client base. We found that only 1 in 3 clients would participate.
  3. Investment for the grand prize + a big investment of time to manage the referral program.

It was also interesting to hear from another part of the discussion that their average client value grew from $21,000 up to $50,000. More than double! Nice!!

Episode: How to Brand Your Agency and Differentiate from the Competition

Marketing Podcast Date: January 29, 2020

What I found interesting about this marketing podcast:

Interview with Scott Markman, Monogram Group. He started his business with Mac and an office space before the internet. From that humble beginning, his agency has been going strong for 30 years.

He said there are 6000 agencies claim that branding is their area of expertise, but to paraphrase most of them are only specialists in design, not branding.

Episode: Is Facebook Ads ROI Dying? How to Adapt and Generate Leads

Marketing Podcast Date: January 29, 2020

What I found interesting about this marketing podcast:

In my opinion, they didn’t really get far into answering the question about Facebook Ads ROI. A general comparison was made to how Google Ads became more difficult to get ROI as the product matured and was more widely used, but there was no talk about the class action lawsuits against Facebook alleging they mislead advertisers with faulty metrics. This was a general discussion rather than a comparison with details showing if or how ROI has changed.

What I did learn from this video was a super tip for running a Facebook Live video.

Facebook Live Tip

Split your Facebook Live into 4 equal parts and at the end of each part repeat your call to action.

I also liked the idea of giving more than one call to action that requires different levels of commitment. My gut instinct is that choice would reduce conversions, but it would be interesting to split test it to see which works better.

Episode: How a Simpler Website Can Improve User Experience

Marketing Podcast Date: September 2, 2020

What I found interesting about this marketing podcast:

In this podcast, John interviews Michael Reynolds, President and CEO of Zephyr CMS. I like Michael’s overall message that simpler websites is better. He explains that his CMS system Zephyr is easier than WordPress to put together a website quickly. That’s a great way for agencies to increase profits. In addition to simplicity, he also talks about the importance with ADA compliance and website speed. Zephyr only licenses their CMS to agencies.

🎙️Podcast recommendation for marketers.

My favorite quote by Chris Walker “If you change what your goal is or how you’re measuring the success of something, it changes the way you approach the problem or the task.”

This thinking reminds me of book, The Gap and the Gain. Be careful what you measure yourself against. Interesting concept – that many of us are measuring performance against results from tactics that worked over a decade ago.

We’re the hidden helpers of many marketing agencies.

🏆We even help an award-winning agency who are known for their organic social media content.

Shhh, as hidden helpers, we contribute to their success behind the scenes, and they trust us to create the social media content for their agency. We even share the announcements when they win more awards.

We help our marketing agency resellers grow their profits without doing any extra work. We have a great relationship with all of our marketing agency partners. Our processes are so darn good that we can handle any capacity and keep that great quality social media content flowing. White Label Reseller Opportunity for Sales Professionals

We value the work you do as a sales professional. That’s why we want to offer you the opportunity to have something of your own. Your own business baby where you call the shots. You set the prices. You decide if or how much you want to discount to close the sale. You sell. We deliver.

We value the time that you spend prospecting and selling, and we want you to have a great experience partnering with us.

White Label Reseller Opportunity that’s better than MLM

If you have been stung by MLM multi-level-marketing opportunities where you had to buy tons of products that you couldn’t sell, or even worse, been encouraged to convince someone else to jump in the sinking ship you’re in to sell, you’ll be pleasently surprised by working with us.

What to look for in a white label reseller opportunity?

There are lots of great white label reseller opportunities out there, but be aware that some are better than others. If a white-label provider tells you that it’s a free opportunity, but they start telling you about fees or things you need to buy as you get closer to signing up, don’t do it. If they can’t be upfront about you at the beginning, you can find a better partner!

Why choose our free white label reseller opportunity?

What sets us apart is that we don’t make you take any financial risks.

The only thing you can lose by trying to sell our social packages is your time.

You are in full control with how much time you spend selling, when you sell, and when you take breaks.

There are no minimum sales, no sales targets, no strings. Just an opportunity for us both to benefit.

If you have been looking at free white label reseller business opportunities, look no further. Please feel free to give Maggie Co-Founder a call on 712-385-8652. I’ll be happy to talk you through the opportunity.

What is white label social media?

White label social media is content that is created by someone else that you can sell to customers.

Every business should regularly post content on their socials. Small businesses are increasingly looking to hire social media marketing agencies to do this for them because they don’t have the time or the know-how.

With white label social media, you don’t have to have know-how either. White label social media agencies (like OfficeHounds) will allow you to sell their services under your brand. Your white label service provider will do all of the work behind the scenes. You will pay the white label service provider a lower rate (like a wholesale rate), and you can charge your customer whatever price you want. You get to set the prices for your customers. You invoice them your prices and get paid without doing any of the work.

What does being white label mean?

Being white label means that a company allows other businesses to sell their product or service with their own branding. It’s a little easier to think about this in terms of a product. Let’s say that I am a white label manufacture dog treats. Pet stores can buy my dog treats and sell them with their label or brand on them. White label services work the same way.

What does white label content mean?

White label content means that the content was created by a white label service company that allows other companies to resell their content.

Let’s look at an example of how white label content works.

You have a business and want to sell upsell content marketing services to your customers without doing the work. You hire a white label marketing agency to help you. In this case, you hire a white label social media company to help you prepare content for a local pet groomer. You ask your white label social media company to create one month of social media content specifically for this customer with custom branded designs and content. Your white label social media company even includes photos of some of the pets that the pet groomer wants to be included. When the white label social media company finishes the content, it goes to your client to approve it or ask for changes. Your white label social media company takes care of the changes and schedules it once it’s approved. You get paid by the pet groomer for the white label content, and you pay the white label company. Everybody wins with white label content creation!

What is white label examples?

When a business is considering reselling a white label product or service, they may want to see some White label examples before placing their first order.

They may even want some white label examples to be able to show potential customers as part of the sales process.

Is reseller business profitable?

As a seasoned white label social media agency, we understand the critical question every potential reseller asks: “Is reseller business profitable?” Let me provide a nuanced perspective that cuts through the noise and delivers real strategic insights.

Reseller social media services aren’t a get-rich-quick scheme, but they represent a strategic opportunity for entrepreneurs who approach the business with intelligence, commitment, and a client-centric mindset. Here’s our transparent breakdown:

Profitability isn’t guaranteed, but it’s absolutely achievable through:

• Strategic Positioning: Successful resellers don’t just sell services; they sell transformative digital marketing solutions. By understanding that every target market’s pain point involves the need to save time, you can position our white label services as a solution that creates value beyond mere transaction.

• Scalability Potential: Our infrastructure allows you to start lean and scale dynamically. Unlike traditional agencies with massive overhead, you can build a flexible business model that adapts to market demands without substantial upfront investment.

• Comfy margins: We’ve set our prices to make it easy for you to make a profit, and you get to decide how much profit. Some of our customers only make a small margin because they want it to be a good deal for their customers and keep some profit for themselves. We’ve had clients charge 3 times our price and retain their customers for the long-term. In a nutshell, our prices are low enough that you can set your prices at a rate that you feel comfortable to sell.

• Low Operational Complexity: By leveraging our white label model, you eliminate the need for extensive in-house social media talent, reducing operational costs and complexity.

The most successful resellers view this not as a passive income stream, but as an active partnership where they become digital transformation architects for their clients.

Profitability isn’t promised—it’s cultivated through strategic effort.

Are you prepared to transform social media reselling into a strategic business opportunity?

What are some other white label business opportunities?

If becoming a social media reseller, doesn’t float your boat, here are some other white label business opportunities for you to consider.

Here are some popular white label business opportunities you might consider:

  1. Web Design and Development: Offer customized websites for clients under your brand.

  3. E-commerce Solutions: Sell products with your branding through drop shipping or print-on-demand services.

How can we get more followers on a LinkedIn company page?

How can we get more followers on a LinkedIn company page?

That’s a question that one of our social media customers recently asked…

Our reply to the question, ‘how can we get more followers on a LinkedIn Company page…

Trying to get more followers on a LinkedIn page is difficult. In fact, we never offer it as a service for our customers because the process of growing LinkedIn followers requires a more personal touch. The best way to increase page likes is to ask your personal LinkedIn connections to follow your page. A good habit is to send a reply to every new LinkedIn connection and ask them to follow your Company Page. If you have a team, ask them to regularly like and comment on your content, that will help your page content to be seen by their personal connections. (Please note if you schedule the same content to your page and personal profile, do not follow this step.)

When thinking about LinkedIn Company pages, it’s helpful to consider your own behaviors on LinkedIn. How do you personally interact with LinkedIn company pages?  Most LinkedIn activities are about people connecting with other people. Sometimes when we connect with someone new, we might click on their company page to learn more about the company they work for. If we see interesting content or we’re interested in that particular company to find a job, add them as a supplier, sell something to them, monitor them as a competitor or learn from their industry expertise, we may click that follow button. Usually we need that compelling reason to follow. How many times have you checked out a LinkedIn company page without following that company. You may have read some of their content without following the page. That’s the nature of the behavioral beast we’re dealing with.

The good news is that there is still value in sharing content on your company page, even if you don’t have a lot of followers. Having your company page updated is beneficial when people check out your page after an interaction with someone who works for the company. If you do get people to follow your page, they are more likely to see your posts in their timeline.

If you have an email list, you can send 2 emails a year asking people to follow your LinkedIn company page. Another way to give your content a boost on LinkedIn is to attach a personal LinkedIn profile to our social media dashboard. This won’t help you get more followers or engagement on your page, but it will get more exposure for your content. When we schedule content to both your LinkedIn company page and personal profile, you’ll stay top of mind with your connections when we appear in their LinkedIn timeline.

The 4 Stages of using Social Media to Market your Small Business

Check out our guide to the four stages of using social media to market your small business.

Find out just how good you really are at social media marketing and see what behaviors you need to change to get to the next stage of social success.

Puppy Stage Social

  • You’re unsure that you’re doing social media right. You have bursts of energy and publish some posts you feel good about. Like a puppy who falls asleep midplay, you stop posting completely and then restart.
  • When you’re using social media to market your business, you get distracted.
  • You feel good about some of your posts. You also fear publishing posts that will leave a mess all over your business socials for everyone to see. In short, you worry that some of your content stinks.
  • You may be past feeling you’re making a mess of your socials, but still feel that you have a lot to learn. All puppies can learn some pretty good tricks but still have accidents! If you aren’t posting 3 times a week, you’re still a social media puppy.

Untrained Social

  • You’ve been using social media for a while. You post 3 times a week or more.
  • You may feel it takes you too long to create your content. You’re unconfident creating designs. You envy how good other business pages look and spend too much time ‘researching’ on social.
  • When you create designs, you use whatever font or color looks good. You don’t know what the html colors are for your brand.
  • Maybe you’ve used the Meta business suite to schedule posts on Facebook and Instagram. You may have set up your Instagram posts to share to Facebook automatically. You have never scheduled one post to go out to all of your socials, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, Pinterest, or Google Business.

Trained Social

  • You post 3 times a week or more and consistently reply to comments and monitor your engagement. You know what to do and have a pretty good social media habit with content you’re proud of.
  • You create branded designs but wish that you could speed up your content creation.
  • You’ve learned some good tricks online that help your posts perform better.
  • You know that people like your social tricks because your posts get rewarded with likes, comments, DMs, and clicks.

Show Dog Social

  • You are an influencer who creates content that your audience loves.
  • You have a large number of fans and followers.
  • You don’t put a paw out of place engaging with followers or producing quality content that converts.
  • If your feelings about your socials were a show dog, they’d prance around the competition and win best in show. You know you are an elite performer, and you have the prize of engaged fans who buy from your business to prove it.
Growth often comes from discomfort

Growth often comes from discomfort

I attended a Mindfulness at Work event recently. Although it was a sublime experience, one particular concept made me uncomfortable when I first heard it. The mindfulness practitioners used a phrase of ‘not striving’ as though striving is a bad thing.

I don’t know about you, but to me, ‘striving’ has a good connotation. We often hear striving in the phrase, ‘striving to achieve’ … a super positive phrase. I guess it’s a pretty deep seeded belief I have that those who focus and push for what they want earn the rewards they receive.

I always did like good old Jacques Derrida‘s deconstruction, so what the hell, let’s do like George Costanza in Seinfield and test drive the opposite.

Watch this funny video and continue reading to see how thinking the opposite about striving could help you.

What if ‘striving’ is a negative force in our lives instead of a positive one? This is my take on the concept of striving inspired by listening to smarter spiritual and much more ‘mindful’ people than myself.

The point of not striving is not to stop trying to achieve great things. The point is to achieve great things from a powerful and peaceful place of being. Sometimes when something isn’t working to plan, acceptance or patience with the situation is called for. It may be possible to force a situation through, but there may be consequences in doing so or other opportunities may be missed because of this single-mindedness.

So for example, I am sharing this information about mindfulness and my thoughts now, because I genuinely believe that everyone benefits from learning techniques to bring peace and focus to our crazy work days.  Surely, we can all benefit from being more peaceful, more mindful.

Once I’ve expressed my thoughts, it frees me to move onto something else without trying to push for a particular outcome.

Is it still important to push to get things done? You bet. It’s more about being ‘mindful’ of the place of being that you push from.
