Bruce Lee Guide to Social Media

Lessons from the great Bruce Lee to help you master Social Media Marketing.

Bruce Lee Social Media Lesson 1

“It is like a finger pointing a way to the moon. Don’t concentrate on the finger or you will miss all of the Heavenly glory.”

Forget the follower count on Twitter or friend count on Facebook. Focusing on the number of connections you have misses the ‘Heavenly Glory’ of Social Media.

If you spend your Social Media Marketing time, targeting people to follow or trying to cajole people into liking your Facebook page, you’re just staring at your finger. Social Media becomes glorious when you allow yourself to be awe inspired by the number of beautiful people sharing information, knowledge, what they care about and a bit of themselves all for you to wonder at and enjoy.

Bruce Lee Social Media Lesson 2

“Running Water never goes stale so you’ve gotta just keep on flowing.”

Don’t stop your Social Media efforts. If you are just starting to use Social Media to market your business, it’s normal to be unsure how to convert your efforts into sales. That’s ok. You don’t need to have all of the answers. Just don’t stop trying. Keep on flowing and your efforts won’t go stale. You will find people to connect with. You will find interesting content to share. You will learn. You will grow. You will flow.

Bruce Lee Social Media Lesson 3

“Empty your mind. Be formless. Be shapeless. Like Water. Water can fall or it can crash. Be water my friend.”

Empty your mind of self-doubt. Trust your instincts with your Social Media Marketing. Do not try to force a ‘Corporate’ professional image. Be formless. Do not enforce a rigid schedule of the same types of posts. Schedule important business messages as part of your strategy, including links to your products or blogs. Just be aware that if self-promotion is all you do, you’ll be looking at the finger again and missing the ‘Heavenly glory’ of Social Media.

It’s ok to share your marketing messages with your audience, after all that’s part of you. Think of self-promotion like the waterfall, gentle reminders of who you are and what you do. If you really want to have impact with your audience, you need the crash. The crash comes when people feel connected to you. Generally speaking, the most memorable posts we see are the personal ones. Be open to expressing aspects of you. Be formless. Be shapeless.  Be water my friend.
